The Gananoque Fire Service is recruiting paid on-call Firefighters.

Key duties and responsibilities:
- Respond safely to emergency situations and calls for assistance 24 hours per day, 7 days a week
- Work in accordance with established policies, operational guidelines (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety Act), and any other relevant legislation or orders
- Apply proper firefighting and/or rescue techniques needed to control and/or extinguish fires and extricate people
- Provide First Aid-CPR
- Wear and properly use all appropriate personal protective equipment
- Work in cooperation with police, paramedics, or other agencies
- Follow the chain of command and orders of superior ranking department officers during training, emergency response, or station activities
- Educate and inform the public about fire safety awareness, including participation in community events and station tours
- Attend training sessions to maintain and upgrade firefighting skills in accordance with established policies and operational guidelines and meet attendance requirements
- Perform other related duties as assigned

- 18 years or older
- Able to respond to 340 Herbert Street within a reasonable amount of time (< 8 minutes preferably)
- Physically fit to carry out firefighter duties
- Minimum of grade 12 or academic equivalent
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with an acceptable drivers abstract,
- An ability to obtain DZ within two years from date of hire
- Ability to obtain an acceptable level of training, knowledge and skills relating to firefighting
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid First Aid-CPR, AED certification
- Strong communication skills with an ability to speak in a clear and articulate manner
- Always maintain a high degree of confidentiality
- Acceptable medical clearance (completed by a physician) to perform firefighting duties
- Acceptable police records check, including a vulnerable sector check

Pay: $18.82 – $31.25 per hour
