The Municipality of Mississippi Mills is recruiting for a Daycare Manager.

The Daycare Manager is responsible for the day to day operation and management of municipal childcare programs in accordance with the regulations set out in the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a secure and developmentally appropriate environment for children through the implementation of high-quality programming as stated in the Mississippi Mills program statement
  • Ensure compliance with regulations under the Childcare and Early Years Act, 2014, Municipality of Mississippi and board of education
  • Establish and monitor operational and capital budgets in order to meet the financial management of the programs
  • Track all subsidized families on the Ontario Child Care Management System (OCCMS) and complete all funding reporting requirements to the County of Lanark
  • Maintain accurate records, files and forms including individual plans for children with medical or health concerns, make referrals to outside agencies
  • Hire staff ensuring compliance with the College of Early Childhood Educators code of ethics and municipal policy
  • Responsible for scheduling of staff shifts within ratio guidelines, process payroll, monitor vacation and sick benefits
  • Develop, update and ensure compliance of all policies, procedures and regulations of governing agencies
  • Renew annually and maintain a clear operating licence for all programs as required through the Child Care Licencing System (CCLS)
  • Ensure the parent handbook is up-to-date and available to families
  • Provide orientation, direction and supervision to all staff, students and volunteers
  • Ensure positive communication with parents through meetings, newsletters and social events
  • Meet continuous practical learning requirements through Lanark County childcare meetings and professional development opportunities
  • Negotiate and administer a contract with the Upper Canada District and Catholic school boards for use of schools for the purpose of before and after school programs
  • Participate in quality assurance and strive to maintain the highest standards
  •  Implement “How does Learning Happen, Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years” curriculum directed by the ministry
  • Implement family satisfaction surveys in all programs and follow through on intervention strategies
  • Meet with council when required to address financial issues the needs of the community and policy changes
  • Apply for all available grants and program subsidies
  • Work within the guidelines of the current union contract
  • Purchase equipment and supplies for programs within budget limits
  • Ensure all required inspections are carried out
  • Report any suspect child abuse to the proper authorities

Complete Job Description

  • Post-secondary education in early childhood education
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Current standard First Aid certificate, including infant-child CPR and defibrillator
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of regulations, policies, and guidelines as they relate to the Early Childhood Education Act
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and specialized software applicable to the position
  • Excellent at planning and organizing skills
  • Strong public relations and customer service skills
  • Valid driver’s licence (class G)
  • Clean vulnerable sector criminal record check and/or attestation
  • A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience and two (2) years of experience as a head teacher
