Ongwanada has been a member of the community since 1948 and has been working in developmental services since 1967. A non-profit, accredited organization, Ongwanada, supports people with developmental disabilities, with a special focus on those with complex needs and their families so that they can lead full lives, effectively supported in their communities.

The organization offers a wide range of individualized services and community supports to hundreds of people with developmental disabilities and their families in Kingston and Eastern Ontario.

We are recruiting for a Social Worker. This is a full-time position.

The Social Worker will provide social work services to individuals with developmental disabilities affiliated with Ongwanada and their families.

Safety is a priority of Ongwanada. Staff are responsible for maintaining their competencies, promoting safety and are accountable for effective person-served care. Employees are expected to follow all safe working practices established by Ongwanada for the protection of the health and safety of all workers, persons-served and visitors and to identify and report actual or potentially unsafe situations.

Duties:    

  • Conducts psychosocial assessment and case coordination
  • Coordinating service planning and providing updates to community planning tables as required
  • Collaborating with the inter professional team and community based service providers
  • Navigating the service system on behalf of individuals and their families
  • Leading team communications with individuals and their families regarding services
  • Provide individual, group, family and couples therapy using the appropriate theoretical framework
  • Other related duties as required
Qualifications
  • Master of Social Work with five years direct clinical experience is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered
  • Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
  • Experience conducting psychosocial assessment and providing individual and family therapy
  • Understanding of case management principles, diagnostic criteria and clinical experience in assessment formulation and report writing
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, including those with a dual diagnosis
  • Valid G driver's license with full driving privileges, insurance and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Excellent knowledge of community resources
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Familiar with use of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job and attend work on a regular basis
  • Bilingualism (French and English) an asset
