We are currently recruiting for a Director of Public Works. This is a full-time position.

The Director of Public Works is responsible for the management, administration, direction and control of all aspects of the public works department.

Essential functions include:

  • A leadership role with regard to asset management as the technical team lead ensuring coordination and plan implementation.
  • Overseeing the transportation services function, including roads maintenance, construction and operations, which is managed by the Roads Superintendent
  • Overseeing the environmental services function, including water and wastewater plant operations provided by the Ontario Clean Water Agency, drainage and stormwater management, energy matters and waste management, which are managed by the Environmental Services Superintendent.

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in the field of engineering
  • A professional engineer or certified engineering technologist certification is considered an asset
  • Strong experience in municipal infrastructure and public works
  • Previous experience with budgeting and asset management
  • Five years of managerial experience, preferably in a unionized environment, with demonstrated ability to lead strategically and direct departmental staff
  • Good interpersonal skills to deal tactfully with the public, staff, bargaining unit and council
  • Excellent project and time management, organizational, analytical, presentation and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret legal surveys, agreements, maps, drawings, plans, GIS data, etc.
  • Basic computer proficiency and report writing are required
  • Valid G driver’s licence in good standing with access to private use of a vehicle
Additional Information

Compensation:  $83,771-$97,114 (2019 rate of pay) includes 35 hours per week, with OMERS and benefits package.
