Ottawa River Power Corporation (ORPC) is a local electrical distribution company serving 11,000 customers in the communities of Almonte, Beachburg, Killaloe, and Pembroke in the beautiful Ottawa Valley.

ORPC is looking for a highly motivated Engineering and Customer Service Manager to deliver the desired results required by the engineering and customer service departments. This is a full-time position.

The goal is to drive success in all areas and to maintain a high level of service quality for our customers through strong leadership and commitment to excellence. The ideal candidate is expected to personify ORPC’s commitment to excellence and efficiency. They will provide exemplary leadership through effective coaching, dependable guidance and sound advice to staff, peers, customers and contractors with a keen ability to enable a consistent and collaborative approach in meeting their objectives.

The ideal candidate for this position would be capable of leading a team of staff members to succeed in their respective roles through effective planning and organization. This position oversees a variety of functions related, but not limited to:

  • Distribution system planning
  • Primary and secondary metering
  • Service layouts
  • SCADA
  • Power quality and analysis
  • Asset management and maintenance
  • Underground utility locates
  • Customer service

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and supervises daily activities of staff
  • Provides technical assessment and verification of work related to permit applications for third party attachments, distribution system design and construction layouts
  • Conducts site plan reviews to identify, in advance, possible issues related to electrical distribution servicing requirements for various proposed residential and commercial developments or re-developments
  • Ensures projects are completed with adequate lead times and within budget
  • Satisfies, in a timely and complete fashion, all business reporting documentation
  • Provides coaching, development, performance management, technical guidance and advice
  • Conducts process reviews and continual improvement of various work processes to ensure alignment with industry best practices
  • Provides input into department goals and objectives
  • Interacts with customers and staff in a friendly and professional manner
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications and adapting to change
  • Leads and/or participates in interdepartmental projects and key initiatives to ensure quality and timely completion within budget
  • Researches, recommends and implements new or improved policies, procedures and processes to advance operational effectiveness
  • Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory and health and safety policies, procedures and standards
  • Ensures compliance with underground and overhead utility locates requirements
  • Leverages GIS, SCADA, metering, and industry best practices to develop advanced system engineering solutions
  • Continually monitors and develops asset management data practices
  • Ensures asset condition assessments are completed on a routine basis
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary diploma in an electrical or technical program; bachelor's degree in electrical or civil-structural engineering is preferred
  • OACETT designation
  • 5 years experience in the electrical field
  • 3 years experience in a personnel management or project management position
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical theory, utility systems, power system analysis and controls
  • Proficiency with productivity software (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, Access) and mobile smart devices
  • Experience with renewable energy concepts and applications
  • Experience with test equipment for electrical measurements, data collection and fault analysis (i.e., meters, meggers, recorders, etc.)
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer systems and networks
  • Strong troubleshooting and analysis skills
  • A history of exceeding customer expectations
  • Experience managing external vendors and vendor relationships
  • Strategic thinker who can turn strategy into action
  • Ability to follow and create both electrical and civil work drawings and schematics
  • Possess a full and valid G2 driver's license and driver's abstract
  • Strong planning, analytical and troubleshooting skills with a clear focus on the delivery of excellent customer service
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Embraces a culture of continuous improvement and effective streamlined processes
  • Proven ability to find efficiencies in business operations
  • Valid safety tickets considered an asset: UWPC, fall protection, First Aid, confined spaces, WHIMIS work authorization and security clearance
  • Clean criminal record (must be produced prior to hire)
