Ferguson Tree Nursery in Kemptville, Ontario is hiring 10 Manual Labourers. These are full-time, seasonal (March-April to November-December) positions to help grow tree and shrub seedlings and native perennials. The work is very physical and is in all types of weather. Depending on the time of year, it may include seeding, weeding, thinning, root pruning, transplanting and a variety of other tasks necessary to keep the seedlings healthy and growing.
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoy being outside and likes physical work (bending and lifting), has good attention to detail to ensure the seedlings are taken care of, can work in a team or alone, is self-motivated, and can be flexible with shifts to account for Mother Nature.
Position Description:
The purpose of these positions is to perform a variety of manual labour operations to produce a variety of nursery products, including the trees and shrubs grown in the fields, potted stock, greenhouse seedlings and perennials.
These positions will work in various parts of the nursery facility and out in the fields. There is a lot of variety as you will be working with all the different products we produce and the tasks required change with the seasons.
Duties:
- Weeding in both a field and greenhouse environment
- Hoeing
- Thinning and root pruning of greenhouse stock
- Transplanting of various plant products in both the fields and greenhouses
- Use of hand tools
- Various other nursery related manual work
