The Ottawa Catholic School Board is recruiting for an Assistant Payroll Supervisor. This is a full-time, permanent position.

Under the direction of the Payroll Supervisor, the Assistant Payroll Supervisor is responsible for all board executive payrolls, assists in updating payroll related software, troubleshoots and debugs payroll software issues, trains payroll staff and documents their responsibilities, acts as a backup while the Payroll Supervisor is absent, and performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all board executive payrolls: processes and balances the bi-weekly pays;
  • Answers questions relating to the payroll
  • In collaboration with the Payroll Supervisor, acts as a resource for the operation and maintenance of the payroll system: assists in the coordination and implementation of system upgrades and patches as required including requirements gathering, documentation, and troubleshooting system errors;
  • Assesses issues identified in the payroll system and works with learning technology and/or the vendor to resolve these issues;
  • Assists in training payroll staff on payroll software and procedures;
  • Creates and edits reports;
  • Tests new processes and maintain tables;
  • Assists in the development of payroll processes and procedures;
  • Serves as a back up to the Payroll Supervisor during vacation and peak periods

The ideal candidate will have a business university degree and have a designation as a Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) or be in the process of obtaining one, plus three to seven years experience in school board human resources or payroll systems. You will have demonstrated hands-on, practical knowledge of payroll software, comfortable with new technologies, the ability to learn new financial applications quickly and effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel, K212HRP (IPPS), Laserfiche and Crystal report writer is required.
