The Township of Madawaska Valley is located 187 km west of Ottawa, in Renfrew County. We are a small, rural Family Health Team (FHT), associated with a group of seven physicians and interdisciplinary health professionals. We located in an area that has a high burden of chronic disease, low average socioeconomic status and is historically under-served for healthcare services. The Madawaska Valley is known for its beautiful scenery of lakes, rivers and forests characteristic of the Algonquin Park area, ample outdoor recreation opportunities, and a strong sense of community. Barry’s Bay is a wonderful community in which to work and play.
We are currently recruiting for a Physician Assistant. This is a two-year contract position, hopefully transitioning to a permanent position.
The successful candidate will be working directly for Dr. Jason Malinowski, who strives for same day access and providing comprehensive full spectrum primary care. The Madawaska Valley FHT/FHO is co-located on the St. Francis Memorial Hospital grounds and comprised of seven physicians and support staff who work closely with two nurse practitioners, a dietitian and a social worker.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Direct patient care following medical directives for both pre-booked and same day appointments.
- Full scope primary care in a rural community including promoting preventive care, managing chronic disease, immunizations, well child and prenatal care, and acute issues. There is a a potential for palliative care also.
- Administrative responsibilities including form completion and updating patient profiles.
