Belleville & Quinte West Community Health Centre (BQWCHC) is a community-based primary health care organization that provides community-focused health promotion, illness prevention, and comprehensive primary health care services, including oral health. We are currently recruiting for a Registered Dental Hygienist. This is a full-time, maternity leave contract with an anticipated start date of August 19, 2019.

As part of a full-time oral health team comprised of the dental receptionist, dental assistant, and dentists, the registered dental hygienist plays a key role in delivering optimal oral health care for individuals who are underinsured or uninsured.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Review and update patient medical and dental history
  • Acquire blood pressure and pulse
  • Review and update radiographs when indicated or prescribed
  • Complete the extraoral and intraoral examination, and related documentation
  • Conduct periodontal charting (periodontal probing, recession, CAL, plaque index)
  • Develop a dental hygiene treatment plan
  • Provide scaling and root planning, prophy, application of fluoride; as appropriate
  • Provide oral hygiene instruction and strategies to promote oral hygiene
  • Determine re-care intervals (dentist or hygienist)
  • Prepare, maintain, and disinfect operatory before and between patients
  • Maintain and reprocess instruments, and participate in up-to-date clinical equipment inventory
  • Advocate for patients’ needs
  • Assist clients in accessing additional supports/services (through BQWCHC and/or partner agencies)
  • Contribute toward exceptional team function for effective and efficient clinic operations
  • Registered Dental Hygienist
  • Proof of completion of dental hygiene program through the National Dental Hygiene Certification Board through an institution accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada
  • Proof of current professional liability insurance
  • In good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario
  • Self-Initiation certification, strong asset
  • Knowledge of the not-for-profit sector, beneficial
