Description:

The Corporation of the Municipality of Hastings Highlands is currently recruiting an energetic, motivated, and creative professional with superior communication, analytical, report writing, and customer service skills who works well in a fast-paced environment to fill the full-time position of Financial Analyst.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Deputy Treasurer, the Financial Analyst, assists the Deputy Treasurer with payroll, employee benefit administration, accounts payable and receivable systems, property tax collection services, as well as assisting staff preparing reports to municipal council and committees of council.

More specifically, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Maintain accurate record keeping and processing of accounts payable and receivable systems including: supporting managers by reviewing the coding of accounts to the proper general ledger accounts in a timely fashion, and answering enquiries from department heads regarding payment status;
  • Assist with the processing of the property tax billing system;
  • Assist in preparing and processing the bi-weekly payroll for the municipality;
  • Assist with administering employee benefit programs;
  • Process cash and electronic payments;
  • Respond to municipal customer service requests as required;
  • Assist with preparation and delivery of reports to council, committees, and municipal staff;
  • Assist with municipal budget and audit requirements;
  • Assist with financial analysis, other special projects, and reports as a finance department resource;
  • Maintain the integrity of the information in the finance systems as requested and assigned by the Deputy Treasurer.
Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in business, economics, accounting or finance;
  • Working towards or completion of the Municipal Administration Program and Finance and Accounting Program (AMCTO);
  • Willingness to obtain a diploma in municipal administration;
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a progressive financial institution;
  • Excellent judgement, tact, time management, organizational, and customer service skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the accounting processes and attention to detail;
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and public sector specific financial programs).
