Cupido Construction Ltd. has been operating since 1979. With more than 30 on staff, we offer a full range of construction services to the industrial, commercial, institutional and public sectors. Our services include general contracting, design-build, custom millwork, facility maintenance and construction management. We also provide period-accurate renovations and additions to historical buildings. Our in-house millwork shop produces architectural millwork and custom cabinetry.

We are recruiting for a Cabinet Maker and Bench Carpenter. This is a full-time, temporary position with an average of 40 hours per week.

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Cabinet Maker is a specialized role in the cabinets and millwork division. The Cabinet Maker will encompass operation of woodworking machines, use of hand tools, prepare measurements of interior space, and the ability to read and understand shop drawings.

Job Duties

  • Operation of woodworking machines and use of hand tools to cut, shape and form wood
  • Knowledge of building materials
  • Prepare and interpret drawings and blueprints
  • Proper measuring of the interior space is imperative
  • Able to custom build pieces in an efficient manner
  • Work under time constraints to meet specific timelines
  • Ensure attention to detail and keen sense of safeguarding other people’s property and information
  • Will practice good housekeeping at all times to ensure a safe and non-cluttered worksite
  • Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of safety principles and practices; follow all safety policies and procedures to support a safe working environment, including safe operation of machines and equipment.
  • Proactively communicate job site conditions and concerns that may or are affecting completion of the job to appropriate person
  • Post-secondary cabinetry courses or certification, Red Seal Certification or journeyperson would be an asset, or working towards
  • Strong ability to read and interpret shop drawings
  • · Ability to problem-solve to achieve design intent
  • Construction and restoration experience preferred
  • Eligible to operate a motor vehicle per Cupido Construction’s vehicle policy
  • Ability to work within a team or indecently as needed
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Willing to work evenings, on call and weekends when requested
  • Periodic travel may be required

Physical Demands

  • Frequent lifting from 5-40 lbs., unassisted (from 35-65% of the time)
  • Occasional lifting from 41 lbs. and assisted (up to 50% of the time)
  • Access and mobility in tight spaces
  • Fit testing – half and full-face mask as needed; annual certification required
  • Working at heights – over 5 feet, periodically
  • Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending and kneeling
